In Maps of City and Body, award-winning performance artist and writer Denise Uyehara erects signposts in the migration of a young woman toward border less identities: blue numbers on a Jewish woman's arm, a Chicana biker neighbor, queerness, love and violence between Asian women and men, a grandmother's fiery suicide. At the same time, the shimmering blue and green lines of maps are projected onto the artist's body--the marks of memories, personal heroes, stories that reveal her character's life destinations. Maps of City and Body is the first in Kaya's series of works by Asian diasporic and Pacific Island performance artists.
