Bookseller Frequently Asked Questions
- Why does PlentyBooks.com ask us if a book is available?

PlentyBooks.com shoulders a significant amount of risk when offering an item on a venue other than the original. Failure to complete a sale can even jeopardize our ability to list on such a venue. Considering that venue's have different standards with regards to sale completion or stock availability, then it is necessary for us to ask for this stock check.

- Is it worth our while to perform a stock check?

At PlentyBooks.com we have recently had a sale rate of 39% on all inquiries. 100 buyers asked for a specific book. We presented it to them. 39 of them bought books that were one-of-a-kind or of high value. We estimate that these items would be much less likely to sell if within a 30-day period if they had simply remained on another venue out of the customer's view.

- Why is it worthwhile to match buyers of rare books with sellers of rare books?

Consider the typical rare book buyer. Many are likely historians, highly-specialized professionals, or were perhaps born in the early part of the 20th century. Let's just say that their focus may not be on the internet, may not be on purchasing rare books in specific, or perhaps they are even a first time user of the internet. The internet continues to expand and more and more venues pop up. Some are less popular than others. How do we give the customer what they need? We let them tell us!

- What if I'm physically incapable of performing a stock check in order to help move my inventory, am not interested, doubt PlentyBooks.com's business model, or just hate PlentyBooks for no reason at all?

Simple, just tell us that your not interested. We will mark you off in our database and never contact you again. To do so would be waste of time that we could be dedicating those who will value our free service.

Also, slander or rude responses to our initial checks are only hurtful. We have a sound business model, are of legitimate moral character, and are here to serve booksellers and customers worldwide. We will consider suggestions, so please let us know if there is anyway you think we could improve.

- Why is the sale rate of PlentyBooks.com simply a miracle?

Buyers of rare books come in all types. While money for some is no object, other's are less well off. Some are opportunists looking for a $100 book for $25. Some make a request and never come back or have already spent the money elswhere by the time you've attempted to address their need. Some are looking for a specific condition of book while for others it is less of a factor.

We sort through tons of inquiries and pick out those that can be considered qualified leads based on the following factors:

- Book genre

- Language used

- Price expectancy (if noted).

- Physical condition.

- Geographic location of both parties.

There is a real science to this. We sort through the garbage to find the real leads as part of our service mentality. Our rate of sale is the determinant of how well we are serving you. If we were to respond to every customer request then the rate of sale would be closer to 5%. We are trying to create a win-win-win-win for buyers, sellers, venues and us.
